  Smartphone display technology is constantly improving, with large advancements being made between subsequent product installments.  Our engineers at Konica Minolta Sensing have taken three popular smartphone models into the lab and put their displays to the test.  The engineers used Konica Minolta’s CA-310 Display Color Analyzer to measure three important characteristics that affect display quality.  They performed three types of measurements on each smartphone display.

Light and color perception are two extremely important physical and biological phenomena that are often taken for granted.  Measurements of light and light source color can provide important information for a diverse range of industries, but being able to quantitatively measure light and light source color can be extremely difficult without the proper tools.  Whether it be the automotive, consumer electronics or lighting industry, it is important to be able to quantify the amount of light and the color of the light being used in the application.

The CL-500A Illuminance Spectrophotometer is a device that can measure the general color rendering index (CRI), individual color rendering indices R1-R15, and the Scoptopic-Photopic (S/P) ratio. The CL-500A is also the first portable spectrophotometer in the world to conform to both DIN and JIS standards. Besides being lightweight, it is also an extremely flexible tool. It can be used as a standalone product in the field or in the lab, and can also be used in conjunction with data management software.  In order to ensure that luminance, CRI, and spectral measurements are accurate, a few simple guidelines should be followed.
