Camouflage in War: Deceiving Enemy Eyes   Best Practices for Visually Evaluating the Color of Samples
In war, fooling the enemy can mean the difference between winning or losing, life or death. Deception is more than just strategy; it’s an art and science that has greatly advanced over the last century ranging from decoy tactics to visual disguises. During the early 1900s, the appearance of military attire became a more integral part to these strategies.

Visual assessments are conducted to identify noticeable inconsistencies between a sample's color and the standard color, as well as to correlate human visual perception with the numerical values of color. In manufacturing environments, performing these assessments early in the color process helps minimize rework later on.

Video: CM-700d Spectrophotometer for Measuring the Color of Samples   Thermochromism: The Effects of Temperature on Pigments and Dyes
The CM-700d Spectrophotometer is a handheld, portable measurement instrument designed to evaluate the color and appearance of samples with flat, shaped, or curved surfaces. This video provides an overview of the CM-700d's features that help users evaluate, reproduce, and control the color of pigments and dyes more effectively.

Using heat or high temperature is common practice in plant operations to manufacture a product. Elevated temperature, however, can affect a product's physical appearance, particularly color. This color change, called thermochromism, is problematic for plastic, coating, and textile applications during QC inspections.
